Sports Eyewear

Sports Eyewear

Now that we are all celebrating the success of Team GB at the Olympic Games perhaps its time to be inspired and act upon our sporting ambitions!  Whether you are an Olympian or enjoy a kick-about in the park, specialist sports eyewear should be an essential part of your kit if you want to stay at the top of your game and remain safe! No matter what your fitness ability or interest, there is an activity out there for you. At David Snow Opticians we can advise you on which specialist product you need to help you stay one step ahead of the competition, whether professional or amateur. Trendy eyewear is good for normal everyday use but  is not intended for tough treatment found in sporting activities. Many people believe that any frame is safe for sports – unfortunately, that’s not necessarily the case. With trendy frames, the lens might pop out of the frame and into the eye on impact, or the frame itself might break and cause injury. We all love sports and most of us love to look fashionable too and we often insist that sports and fashion go together, sometimes to our own detriment. For while protective eye gear may never be the latest craze in tennis or squash, think for a moment about the logic of not protecting our eyes. At David Snow Opticians we are well qualified to advise on your personal needs and would be happy to hear from...

The Snow Eye-care Guide to Make-Up!

The Snow Eye-care Guide to Make-Up!

Are your glasses aging you? They might be if you’re still sporting the specs you wore when Mrs Thatcher was Prime Minister! Choosing the right frames can take years off your face. Whether you’re shopping for reading glasses or need a pair of shades to fend off wrinkles and sunspots, consider investing in one of our stylish frames that will make you look more youthful and feel great!   Eyeglasses can make a big impact on your appearance, and styling your make-up to complement your glasses all comes down to personal preference. But here are a few trendy tips to help you look your best. Lighten Up: Some eyeglass frames can cast dark shadows around the eyes in certain light. Contouring your foundation can highlight key features, like the eyes: To combat this blend a lighter-toned foundation under your eyes and down the centre of your nose. This technique – known as contouring – makes you appear fresher and highlights your eyes. You can take this one step further and fully contour your face by bronzing your cheek bones, the top of your forehead and either side of your nose. Be sure to fully blend the highlighting foundation and bronzer with your natural-colored face makeup. Just Browsing: Eyebrow styling largely depends on the size and shape of your eyewear, as well as the thickness and contour of your eyebrows. If you wear smaller frames or have naturally thin eyebrows, filling them in with a natural color can help attract attention to your eyes. filling in your eyebrows with your natural color can help draw focus to your eyes and...
Blinded by the Bite! Why we need spare glasses…

Blinded by the Bite! Why we need spare glasses…

It’s completely normal for people to misplace things! Certain items like keys and glasses seem to always end up missing, leaving you scrambling to find them on the way out of the house. Over the Christmas and New Year break, one of our patients was staying with relatives. One morning, her son-in-law came down in the morning to find a very guilty looking dog sitting looking mournfully at her well chewed glasses! A quick visit to David Snow Optician sorted the problem out calmly, efficiently and swiftly, thus saving a family crisis and the dog lived to see another day! We never make a drama out of a crisis! However, this incident highlights how imperative it is for patients who wear glasses or contact lenses to always have a spare, up to date pair available at all times. There are a number of reasons that we offer this advice. If you are a spectacle wearer – and especially if you have worn glasses for a long time – you may have endured the stress of having broken or damaged your glasses at some stage. These unenviable situations are made somewhat less stressful if you have access to a current spare pair, which you can wear in the interim period during which your first pair are replaced or repaired. Having two pairs of spectacles is also especially useful for people who go abroad often, as legislation in many countries states that spectacle wearers must keep an up to date spare pair of glasses in a vehicle with them whilst driving. A spare pair of glasses is absolutely vital for contact...
